“The goal of Google Chrome OS is to unify all the Google services on the same computer”

More than half the internet is waiting for what may come to Google with its new operating system, which will be released later this year. Following the success and the success of Chrome, its browser, Google Operating System Chron will be the platform through which the company is inserted into the operating system market.

In Baquia.com we spoke with Xoxe Garcia, assistant principal YouTube Aid, which believes that, although “it is too early to analyze in detail the operation and monitoring of Google Chrome OS” as it is still being developed, will to be a hit in terms of how we see an operating system. ” “Until now we can not differentiate an Operating System which means use it, use storage devices such as hard drives, pendrive, DVD’s, etc”. That is why Google is betting that by doing things differently “increasingly focuses on integration of equipment into the cloud, to have your files, contacts, documents and multimedia from anywhere, without restraint, without having to carry a portable hard drive or a notebook, knowing that you can have your stuff from any computer connected to the network. ”

The goal of Google Chrome OS is therefore “unify all Google services on one computer and that instead of needing a browser like Chrome, it is integrated throughout the system.” Still, however, is not intended to Google Chrome OS is the responsibility of anyone, “is a good alternative to existing operating systems, not competitor, due to entirely different fields covered, which is a fully integrated team with the cloud .

With good prospects and great curiosity on the part of users, Chrome Google Operating System is still under development. If all goes well, the end of this year and early next and we can test the platform and see if the new services will mark a trend and will set the agenda of other developers.

The upcoming operating system for computers Google has instinctive reactions of sales by manufacturers of chips and other original equipment (OEMs).

(EOL / Oswaldo Barajas) .- A few weeks ago that the U.S. giant Google announced the development of an open source operating system exclusively for mobile computing devices, the reactions were swift to act on the part of the leading manufacturers of chips.

The new platform for developing Google (Chrome Operating System) has been regarded as one of the most ambitious initiatives for the website of this millennium, as well as forming a virtual team of choice in programming for computer systems to come, is also open source (open-source) which means a plus for future users of this technology, because input space savings in their internal computers, extra costs saved by avoiding the purchase of additional components of implementation, software packages and finally increase support for data processing under optimum level of security.

These characteristics have resulted in a series of reactions in the semiconductor sector, explicitly in the area of microprocessors, where non-original equipment (OEMs) are kept closely in the scene Chrome OS to know under what architecture be linked or failing will have compatibility.

Note that the operating system Microsoft signature (mainly affected by this initiative from Google) has the flexibility to reconcile with different architectures such as Intel and AMD, to name a few, but as a proposal that would cut the cost of the units of consumption, chip manufacturers have aimed to become the principal partner of Chrome, which is expected to be launched in mid-2010.

In its development stage

As said before Google Chrome the OS is an operating system whose main characteristic is to be open source, meaning that their development is built the series of contributions from developers who wish to participate in international development, so that the is now open the call for assistance.

“Since we are working with several partners and the developer community to develop this system, we want to share our vision for this project now so that everyone understands what we are trying to achieve,” are statements made by Sundar Pichai, Vice President of Administration Product and Linux Upson, Director of Engineering at Google.

“Speed, simplicity and security are key aspects of Google Chrome OS. Chrome for OS are designed to be lightweight and super-fast, so that you can boot and be surfing the Web in a few seconds.

User interface (UI) is minimal, so as not to interfere and that the experience on the Web. And as we did with Google Chrome browser, we are concentrating on the core and completely redesigning the security architecture of the operating system so users do not have to deal with viruses, malwares and security updates. The computer only has to work “, said the company representatives at the site their official site for Latin America: http://googleamericalatinablog.blogspot.com/2009/07/presentando-google-chrome-os.html
The report of these statements to date on July 8, 2009, both executives confirmed that the Google Chrome OS will run on x86 and ARM platforms, but clarifies that Google has had discussions with several chip manufacturers to extend Chrome the OS towards sub-sectors such as consumer computational NETBOOK.

“We are working with many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs, according to its acronym in English) to provide a number of netbooks on the market next year. The software architecture is simple – Google Chrome running in a new window system on a Linux Kernel. For application developers, the Web is the platform.

All Web-based applications will operate automatically and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these applications not only run in Google Chrome browser in any OS (standard-based) on Windows, Mac and Linux, it will give developers a much broader base of potential users, “the report .
It also stresses that the Chrome OS only cover the area of the Netbook, ultra compact devices defined only for navigation tasks in a network.

Mindful of those OEMs and chip manufacturers for the development of Chrome OS

Once you understand what Google Chrome is the OS, then ask how it is that the chip companies and those involved in the platforms for Netbooks, are awaiting the development of this initiative which promises to bring to market entry a new model virtual platforms.

In this sense, the EETimes magazine indicates that some developers of systems including those of Microsoft Corp. customers nearby, have turned to Google Chrome OS with the intention not to miss what could be the start of a trend for netbooks and desktop .

Freescale Semiconductor

The publication of this report also indicates that one of the options until they work now with the decision makers of Google, is the manufacturer of semiconductors and platforms for design, Freescale Semiconductor, due to its processor i.Mx515 initially developed as a main column for your new platform netbooks. This multi-core processor uses Freescale ARM Cortex A8 with 512 MB of DDR2 memory.
“Our customers are interested in one type of significant funding for its alternative strategies for software and Google has the muscle to do this,” said Glen Burchers thereon, director of marketing for Freescale. “Several of our larger customers are intrigued,” he said.

The report indicates that the journal Freescale heard of this initiative to begin in February this year through information provided by one of its main clients focus on Android operating platform for its products NETBOOK, “but now they have diverted their attention to Chrome “he added Burchers.

In this sense, Judith Flores, MAD CPO RTAC manager of Freescale Semiconductor from Mexico, in an interview for ElectronicosOnline.com Magazine, explained that now the position of Freescale in Chrome the operating system is marginal, because it is their primary niche platforms to the industry of mobile communication devices, the Google initiative for their OS is a process of technical evaluation.

“The only agreement is with the Google Android Linux-based system, now we have nothing in terms of negotiations on Google Chrome and Freescale,” said Judith Flores.
The representative of the firm in Mexico explained that the strategy with Freescale to Google so far is the area of devices that incorporate the Android Linux system and referred to the Freescale processor i.Mx515 (possible candidate for the sector in Google Chrome OS of netbooks) as a component to a different segment to the other microprocessors like the Intel Atom.

“The i.Mx515 is not like the Intel Atom, which is a little more expensive,” Flores said, clarifying that the processor architecture based on Freescale ARM Cortex A8 is “light” does not mean that he is incompetent in the market as the i.Mx515 noted that as the Atom completely different target segments.

Finally Jutith Flores pointed out that until we find the progress in developing the operating system of Google, can not be a correct statement about the architecture of the processor compatible with the netbooks that integrate Google Chrome OS.

Intel Corporation:

Arguably this manufacturer of microprocessors to fall behind in this initiative, so to confirm their participation in the current list of selected Google, Jose Granados, Communications Manager of Intel Mexico agreed to a telephone for the ElectronicosOnline.com Magazine confirmed that Google’s intentions for the Intel architecture for its next OS.

“We have been working with Google and other developers’ open source ‘, and we agree with the position of Google in this initiative so that users have more opportunity to choose,” said Intel spokesman Mexico . He clarified that in no way in favor of promoting operating systems in particular, but its main purpose is to generate greater purchase option to the final consumer. “We support that customers have more choices,” he said.

Chat about business between Google and Intel, Jose Granados said that so far have not received further information from corporate on any agreement reached. “We have not received any information of dates, the only thing we know is that we are working with the team at Google, as we do with Microsotf and the open-source community,” the representative of Intel.

Other OEMs involved

There are also other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that have remained nourished the last information, this is the case with Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP) who are outstanding but not to engage with public statements.
Texas Instruments is another company that they see the Google Chrome OS as a feast of opportunities, because it must be remembered that the architecture of the TI OMAP processor based on ARM technology.

In this regard, Ramesh Iyer, head of business development for the mobile computing industry, said: “The mobile computing devices such as netbooks, are the tip of the iceberg in this fast growing mobile segment. An important aspect of these platforms, Linux is the integrated software, which simplifies the development and manipulation of the user while providing an enhanced user experience, “said Iyer.

Since Google does not anticipate that it will be necessary to install antivirus in Chrome OS.

According to a statement from the director of engineering for Google, will install antivirus in Google Chrome OS, since according to this engineer, Chrome obsolete OS cease to malwares and viruses today.

Forceful words for something that has not yet stepped on the network, and ensure that Google Chrome OS is being created by a new security architecture based on a Linux kernel, and because most of its processes are executed in cloud (network), security is ensured.

What Ballmer says when you read these statements, and when he finds out that Chrome will have no problems with OS virus?

I really do not know what to think about these statements. If they want to raise expectations are getting, but I hope they comply with the data that are filtered slowly, because the bar is high and users are not for more disappointments.

Moreover, the alleged absence of virus in Chrome OS can be given because it is based on Linux, although I do not know very well this platform, I believe that an operating system to be extended nothing compared with Windows, this absence is due that the virus creators have no motivation to poison those systems and we’ll see when you leave Chrome OS what happens.

In an article published in New Scientist, the director of engineering for Google, Linus Upson said that users of the Google Chrome OS operating system will not have to worry about viruses, malware or security updates.

The Recognition of Google as one of the companies best prepared to cope with major technological challenges to the new Google Chrome OS is based on a Linux kernel and its use to mainly to the Internet (Cloud Computing) which is not stored many files on the hard drive but on central servers of Google, coupled with the reputation earned as Gmail service has meant a high degree of reliability in the filtration of unwanted emails (spam), giving a margin of confidence for the pretentious aspiration to create an obsolete operating system to stop the current viruses and Trojans.

Companies like Nvidia, Dell, Asus, Acer has already confirmed that they will give their support for the development and improvement of Google Chrome OS, and the group of companies from the Linux Foundation.

Ironically one weeks ago appeared a new security update Google Chrome browser solution with several bugs.

Google Chrome S.O. Originally designed for netbooks, may be ready for next year 2010

HP, Acer, Toshiba and Asus are among those manufacturers who are designing equipment based on the operating system giant internet.

Google defies after announcing that Microsoft is working on its own operating system for PCs, called Google Chrome OS. Here are some of the details of the proposed Google.

- What is Google Chrome OS?
It is an operating system for personal computers. Unlike Microsoft Windows, is not a proprietary technology of Google. In fact, based on the core of the open source operating system Linux. About it, you run the Chrome browser in the company.

- What is different from Windows?
Besides being open source, Google poses a different operating system designed for the Internet era. A light and fast, so the user can connect to the network in a few seconds, without waiting for minutes as with other systems.

The interface is minimal, because the idea is that most of the work is done on the web. One example: instead of a word processor installed on your computer, you use the Internet in which they reside.

The big challenge is that Google and the producers managed to convince the users of this new way of working, as opposed to the traditional Windows. The doubts of the users on the security of having data on the Web or work with applications that are not family members are potential brakes. This change in attitude take time.

- How much does it cost?
Google confirmed yesterday that it will be free as it is a project based on open source. Microsoft recently offered the price of Windows 7, its next system, which will reach stores on October 22. Will cost 199 euros in its Home Premium, the most common. Being free, it is expected that teams with Chrome OS cost of about 10% less, according to analysts.

- Where and when can I get Google Chrome OS?
Google has not clarified whether it may be downloaded from the web, but yesterday provided the name of the manufacturers with which it is in talks to design devices that come with your operating system preinstalled.

Among others, Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Toshiba, Asus, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Freescale. The code system is open to developers and end of the year in the second half of 2010, there will be the first computers with Google Chrome OS.

- Why Linux can win this and not others?
Companies such as HP and Acer are already working on devices with Google Chrome OS says a lot. Manufacturers know that a PC with the Google brand can not pull that have other versions of Linux.

- But does not Google already had an operating system?
Yes, it is called Android, and is also based on Linux. But this is aimed at the environment of smart mobile phones, although some companies such as Acer had announced its intention to launch Android based miniportátiles. However, Google Chrome is for OS computers. Are two independent projects, although some areas may overlap.

- What if Google wins free?
Google’s business is selling operating systems, but advertising on search engines. It also sells subscriptions to pay companies to use their online applications Google Apps (email and office automation), but represents a very small percentage of their turnover.

Google’s goal is to attract people to the Web, where is the market leader. The more users to connect to the Internet (and make more intensive use) of its search engine and online applications like Google Apps, you will have more profitable audience via advertising.

- Can be used in all types of computers?
The company said that initially, is targeted at netbooks, the miniportátiles designed to connect to the Internet, where Microsoft dominates with Windows XP. But there will be more. First, because it runs on x86 chips (Intel and AMD), but also on the ARM used by manufacturers of mobile phones.

In fact, Google is working with companies like Qualcomm processor, Texas Instruments and Freescale, who advocate a new product category, midway between the mobile and intelligent miniportátil whose batteries last longer than those of Intel with Windows. The analysts take for granted that it was based on the Linux kernel may also be used on laptops and traditional desktop PC. An attack on the entire Microsoft empire. But it is not designed for a PC user who wants to, for example, playing or doing graphic design.

- What applications will result?
Google seeks to foster a community of developers to create new web applications accessible from the system.

Google said it is working on a new operating system. His name is Chrome OS, and although competition is always a problem, since Microsoft has already made it clear they are not afraid. And is that even Bill Gates said that Microsoft should not fear this system. However, although we still do not know if they are right, we can glimpse that he has reason to worry at the offices of Redmond. In particular, because they have already seen the light catches the first of this operating system in action.

As we can see, this is still an alpha version. Ie, a very little that is in testing phase, so there is still much work to do. And surely many of the functions will not be reflected in these images. It is also noteworthy that, for the same reason, the design may change later, with the final version. Although it is safest to maintain if not identical, almost the same.

So far, we can see that it has not worked too much on the visual aspect, even has a very simple and virtually without icons. Moreover, the few that we can see, it could be simple outlines of what will be. Although a very important point in its favor, is that if you are working, despite the short time spent in development and will be able to see it sooner than we think.

However, not until the uncovering more details about Google’s operating system, will have to settle for so little is filtered, how are you pictures. But if things are going at this speed, will soon learn more about the subject.

Completed the development of Windows 7, are already putting on the table early speculation about how it will be the successor to this, for the time has come to be called Windows 8. Virtualization and integration with online services could be enhanced two points regarding the current version.

While it will still not selling in stores or pre-installed on our computers until October 22, the date on which Windows 7 will be available to the general public, is already thinking about his successor. As quoted in a previous article, if Microsoft is working on two new versions of its operating systems simultaneously, so that once the development of the successor to Vista, we can ask is known about the longer term future of the family Microsoft operating system.

Well the truth is that little or nothing is known, but of course something has been speculated. It is likely that one of the technologies that improves the virtualization is enabling desktop machines to isolate the execution of programs in memory, similar to what Google will also make the new OS and that Chrome will also increase security of all the operating system in general, and that thereafter the creators of viruses (virii) must find two holes simultaneously (one in the program and another in the virtual machine that houses it) to access some kind of control over the machine .

Microsoft should consider every day a greater number of platforms with its particular characteristics each of them depending on the type of machines that are targeted. Thus, while one can expect the evolution of Intel Atom chips to multi-core structures of two or even four cores, desktop processors will continue their evolution from the current two or four cores to eight or sixteen of a future not very far away, probably when windows overlooking the nose 8. This will cause the successor to Windows 7 must be adapted to a wide variety of architectures, from the strongest possible until a new generation of micro devices for even smaller netbooks that, computers or ultra-low price, less than 100 Euros.

The online services are the future that is already present. Chrome OS is geared towards them, and it is likely that Windows 8 is already looking toward a greater empathy with the next generation of Microsoft’s own Live, which will undoubtedly enhance increasingly to deal with the colossus of the browser .

The transition from 32 to 64 bits are being done slowly and heavily. Windows 8 might be a very significant step forward, giving greater importance to its 64-bit version and forcing manufacturers and integrators to migrate its massive machinery to the new architecture. With Windows 7 will still not be that long-awaited massive leap, but in the coming months in which this system is the cornerstone of Microsoft, this architecture will expand its market presence.

However, we will not see a radical break with the 32 bits to the “Apple-style” cut and limit support only to products previously available. Back in Windows 95 and 98 survived long 16-bit code inherited from Windows 3.x, and we do not refer to the command line of MS-DOS, but the system libraries. Perhaps the beginning of the end of the 32-bit version starts beyond Windows 8, which could already start to call Windows 9.

The user interface will probably change at some point, but at the moment it is impossible to say anything about it. Most likely the first versions add a few internal changes on the interface used by 7 in view of the expected influences on the medium-term future will come from mobile devices (an area where Apple innovated with the interface multitáctil , which then proceeded to desktop computers) or other trends.

For Bill Gates, the new Google Chrome for OS is a familiar face: Linux.

“There are a variety of Linux distributions on the market with variations in their design and started in different ways,” Gates said in an interview with CNET News last week. “It amazes me that people see this as something totally new. Android already exists in netbooks and mobile, and incorporates a browser. ” Gates added that really can not comment on OS Chrome Google as it unveils very little about how it works than it is a lightweight Linux kernel.

“The more ambiguous the message is more interesting is the thing,” said Gates.

Moreover, Gates said that the concept of the browser as operating system is not a new idea and that most browsers already incorporate or facilitate the installation of add-ons and plug-ins to function as an operating system.

“The only thing this shows is that the word ‘browser’ ceases to have effect, at least in its traditional meaning,” added Gates. “What is or is not a browser? If you’re watching a movie online, is it a browser or not? If you’re taking notes and making notes, is a browser or not? If you write or edit text documents, is it a browser or not? In large part, I think this is more of a change in terminology that a change in technology. ”

Also, Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, suggested that Windows, an operating system that is not based exclusively on the Web strategy is to follow. To support its argument, Ballmer said that half of all PCs used to perform offline.

“We do not need a new operating system,” Ballmer said in his opening speech at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference held recently in New Orleans. “What I have to do is to continue the evolution of Windows, applications Windows, Internet Explorer, IE how it interacts with Windows and how to design applications like Office. And we must ensure that our partners and customers are part of this process. ”

Gates and Ballmer also added that with Chrome OS, Google has two operating systems, Android being the other. Ballmer reveals the two-OS (Windows 95 and Windows NT) did not do anything right to Microsoft. “The fact that we had Windows 95 to the user / client and Windows NT does not mean that business was good experience,” said Ballmer.

The next operating system, Google Chrome OS will remove the problem of computer viruses, says engineering manager of the company.

The director of engineering for Google, Linus Upson said in an interview with the New Scientist, announced that the operating system OS Chrome left to mature existing malicious codes.

“We redesigned the architecture of an underlying security so radically that users no longer have to worry about viruses, malware or security updates. The system simply works, “said Upson.

Chrome the operating system OS based on a Linux kernel, but unlike traditional operating systems, most processes are executed in the cloud. Thus, a considerably lower number of elements must be downloaded to the user’s personal computer. According to Linus Upson, the feature will benefit, undoubtedly, the security.

By contrast, Paul Jackson, an analyst at Forrester Research, noted that Google’s operating system will inevitably be vulnerable to attacks against the browser, or the Linux kernel.

We know little of the new project of Google, but it will be based on Linux, extend the findings to the security of Chrome their operating system will boot in a few seconds and use the internet giant’s browser for everything you can. The idea that Google tries to sell us is that we do almost everything online, so you do not need the operating system is nothing but an interface between the machine and browser.

Beyond the economic consequences that this may have to move Microsoft in the short term it should serve as an argument against antitrust authorities, although they do not respond to reason but to suit the competitors of the company founded by Bill Gates. If Google announces a new operating system that consists of little more than a browser, how is that Brussels does not oblige Microsoft to tie Windows with Internet Explorer? Does Google bull, which will be integrated with the browser so that even the operating system will be named the same?

Argued a few months ago that Chrome was not a threat to Windows, but for the Explorer, and Google is expected to employ its capabilities as a company to preinstall its browser on computers, something no other competitor could Microsoft be able to do. Enrique Dans, however, saw it as a way to lose importance to the operating system up to “not care what brings me to run under my browser.” It seems that Google has reached the conviction that to achieve both objectives it is necessary to provide a complete system from the manufacturers and focus initially the market for netbooks.

The choice is logical. As much as we say that we do everything on the web, in reality this is not true. We do almost everything. And that remains nearly important enough for many users. But it is true that netbooks do not have power right now to just to access the web, mail and run office applications, but will have to see what can be done in 2010, when you come with Google’s operating system installed.

Bing and the online version of Office are the latest attacks Microsoft to sources of business from Google. But so far has failed, a company with the financial capabilities of Microsoft may end up right and doing much harm to Google. Moreover, as the years pass and, yes, we are increasingly moving our data and applications to the “cloud” is the abstract network, the importance of Microsoft is less and hence the bad image that remains for many. Hence, in Palo Alto have thought about moving to reduce the income of his rival, who are currently focused on Windows and Office.

In any case, as long as competition is so fierce, the users will benefit. Even if we do not use Bing, Google imitate their older hits. While Google Chrome does not install OS, Microsoft may be forced to lower their prices or ease Windows. Hopefully both companies survive long echándose garage at the helm.
