I already give you a tips for removing BING from Internet Explorer 7 and there is still many question asking me how to removing in Internet Explorer 8 ( IE 8 ). Many of you do not like this BING a new search engine introduced by Microsoft in the beginning of June , nor am I
Please note that this issue are not related with an issue with Internet Explorer. You can not choose to not using BING since Microsoft have made the change on their servers from Live Search to Bing. In short term, Everyone going to live.com ends up at bing.com.
- Anyway, you can turn off Bing. Well the procedure is the same with the tips that I already post before, and it will take you just a few seconds.
- In IE 8, there is Tools or manage addons.
- Click on search providers than Click on Bing
- Click remove. Or, if you want to keep it but not as default, click on the search provider you want to be default, click set as default.
- Now, your Internet Explorer 8 are free from BING

I tried to remove BING from IE8. The remove box in manage add-ons will not light so that I can remove. Any suggestions?

I have same issue as Bob. What do we do?
June 20th, 2009
Mine too, but here’s what I did:
go to the IE8 toolbar upper right and click on the arrow for pull down.
Choose Google, or whatever your search engine is, and then make it default.
disable Bing. It’s still there, but doesn’t work.
Bloody MS, these involuntary add-ons make me nuts.

thanks much man it off!!

for me also same issue. what should i do ?

Jim I tried all of the above. Bing cannot be removed as the remove button is not activated when you go into the Manage Add Ons section under Tools, and the drop down to set Google or other Search engine only lasts until the next time you come on the internet and get the annoying window courtesy of MS telling you someone has tried to hijack you default search engine away from Bing. If you can tell me how to stop that window coming up each time I come onto the internet that would be great. Gates and his ilk are smugger than anything I have ever dealt with.

Installing Mozilla Fire Fox worked. I call for BAN on IE!!

I’ve removed it, but it’s still embedded in searches showning up. As normal, MS has made another screwed up product and made it impossible to remove. Hopefully they go the way of AOL soon. The government should have shut the criminals down long ago. (I guess if you have enough money you really aren’t a criminal.)

Help, this thing is so annoying!! I’ve tried everything to remove Bing, and I’m so frustrated I’m afraid that I’ll remove something vital trying to stamp this thing out!!! It won’t even let you remove IE8, Where’s my Bill Gates Dart Board!
June 29th, 2009
I have tried everything myself too and it still keeps coming back. You can’t delete it as it doesn’t allow you too. What happens if I remove Explorer all together and re download 7 as I didn’t have this problem in 7? will all my favorites be lost?

There is a way to remove Bing in IE8 so the second tab with Bing does not load – Tools>Internet Options, in the General tab where you set/select your homepage URL delete the Bing URL. Next time you launch IE8 the Bing tab will be gone.

I just figured this out.
1. reset web settings.
2. after you close ie it will ask you a bunch of questions. tell it either no or customize. when you get finished with that you should get to a tab where you get to customize your search provider.
3. in the add your own search provider box on the right side. put in url as http://about:blank TEST then give it a name.
4. when you are done with that. go into manage addons, search providers and remove live search, then prevent about:blank from being changed check box.

None of that worked for me.
I will share the secret of what does work:
First, understand that you will not be able to REMOVE Bing! until you ADD another search provider.
None of the IE8 options allowed me to add another Search provider…
So I simply used the following to enable alternate search providers:
1. go to
http://www.dogpile.com/
2. select Download Toolbar – Run
Installing the software will enable you to add dogpile as your default search engine.
Repeat process with Google and other search providers.
I do not recommend using yahoo, since future YH! searches will be via Bing!.
Once you have alternate search providers, you can set one of them as default, and switch to the others as desired.
You can now delete the Bing! entry. You can also uninstall the toolbars, or simply close them, your preference.
Please comment if this works as well for you as it did for me.

This doesn’t work with Vista and IE8. The Remove Button is ALWAYS grayed out and you CANNOT add another search engine.

ive figured out how to get rid of bing as your search engine and off of your windows live.
exit the internet explorer. go to start, then go to control panel, then go to internet options. from here, under the general tab, change your default search provider to whatever you want besides bing. you can also do this on the tools bar of your internet explorer or using the arrow next to the magnifying glass on your internet explorer to delete bing. now that your default search engine is corrected, you can fix your windows live account. now, when you go to manage search providers using the arrow next to the magnifying glass on the internet explorer or going to manage addons under the tools menu on internet explorer, when you try to remove things, the remove button doesnt work. this will fix the problem. YOU MUST NOT BE ON THE INTERNET FOR THE REMOVE BUTTON TO WORK. so you exit the internet explorer. go tostart, then control panel, the internet options, then click on the tab labeled “programs”. click on the button called manage add ons. here you find the same menu as the one on the internet, except the buttons work! highlight the live search and click remove. now when you go to the internet and log into hotmail, it will not be bing. it will be back to normal. no more bing!!!!!!

if the Remove button is not lit up, it’s because you cannot have an empty list there. You need to add a new search provider (I added Google search), then you may right click Windows Live or Bing and the button will be usable
Hope it helps, Bing really gets on my nerves. Not anymore

this information is bogus.
simply right click on the toolbar and uncheck MSN toolbar.
DONE.

Read all the ways to remove that #$#@!Bing!!…The one that worked for me was making sure I was NOT connected to the internet!!..Tools…Manage add-ons….Search providers….When not connected to the internet my set default, and the remove bottoms were lit up and worked accordingly….You then can change your default settings, and add or remove as you choose..Oh yeah..Make sure you have changed your settings….Tools…Internet options…General…etc….It worked for me on IE8….No bing bar no bing nothing!!!!

In IE8 go to tools/manage/addons/search provides. At the bottom click on find more search providers… choose google etc. This will add google as an additional search provider. Clcik on google and set it as the default see bottom right. Click on bing and click remove. Job done.
