Are good times for Mozilla. Over the weekend, its browser, Firefox will reach one billion downloads, if you add both the previous and the latest versions.

“This achievement was unthinkable years ago for an open source product,” says the company in a statement. To celebrate and thank its members, on Monday, August 3 Mozilla activated microsite www.onebillionplusyou.com.

The open source browser, which has 30% market share, followed by Safari and Opera, has failed to overcome a Microsoft Explorer, which owns 60%, followed by Google Chrome OS.

This situation could change in Europe since the EU authorities to punish the Redmond for “abuse of dominant position.” Thus, at least in the Old Continent, Microsoft will no longer install in browsers other than their computers. This, coupled with the slow pace in adopting new standards of design and web programming, could lose ground to explore.

At the same time, Mozilla is already working on the development of its new version of Firefox, as reported yesterday eWEEK.

As is clear from reading the statistics carried out periodically by Net Applications, Microsoft virtually has not moved in the ranking of search engines online, although some hundredth win overall.

This past May, they had not yet launched its new search engine, the two online search tools from the company (and MSN Live Search) had respectively 2.94 and 2.49% of the total market according to Net Applications This represents a 5.43% co. At the end of June, the same statistics as Bing has reached a market share of 5.31%, while Live Search (which continues active in some countries while in most parts of the globe and has been replaced by the new Microsoft search engine) holds 0.66% of the searches, which adds a 5.97% market share, barely a 0.66% increase on the previous month.

This can be seen as a failure in any rule where the multinational company headed by Steve Ballmer has invested so much time, money and marketing resources to promote the new tool. In comparison, its closest competitors (Google and Yahoo!) Took a 81.22% and 9.21% respectively of the market, having barely lost a few hundredths of a quota Bing.

I’m not saying that Microsoft has the tendency to invest in just one month, but it was expected that with all the resources invested in the new browser, that conquered the hearts of at least 2-3% over the public internet, to what it has far from come.

Nor is it easy to explain why they are suffering, someone could argue that the quality of results offered by Bing, while others might see the Internet are mostly faithful to the tools they use regularly. It is difficult to know for sure, while there are no detailed studies on the subject.

For the third lucky? Bing, the latest attempt by Microsoft to make a site on the search engines of war, it has tickled the giant Google. In its first month of life, Bing had increased its market share in the United States in April and 7.21% 7.81% in May to its predecessor Live Bing 8.23% in June.

42 tenths of its increase (in relative, with a 5.10% seems more important) coincides with the loss of 24 tenths of Google, which has come to dominate with a 78.72% to 78.48%. Apparently gains and losses seem ridiculous, but over the history of Google is unique in the months it has lost market. Despite the fact optimistic, Yahoo remains the second browser, and uploading (from 10.99 to 11.04), according to the scrutiny of StatCounter. And a shade more to Microsoft, the largest number of searches were conducted in the first week of operation, when it reached nearly 10% of the market.

As we know these figures are encouraging for Microsoft, announced that it will incorporate its search engine more information in real time, beginning with the most prolific twitteros a variety of areas noticeably. According to Sean Sucht, manager of Bing, “at first capture the messages of a few thousand people, elected by the number of followers they have and the number of messages they send.”

Microsoft’s strategy of attacking the weakest side of Google because your search engine does not provide direct information. Hence the success of Twitter in recent events such as the electoral crisis of Iran or some natural disaster. Also, for the same reason, on several occasions it was rumored that Google might be interested in buying Twitter.

If you installed any of Microsoft products such as Messager, you must beware !!! because Microsoft force their Bing Search Engine to replace your default Firefox addressbar to their Bing search Engine

Previously, whenever I type some keyword in Firefox addressbar and press enter, search engine used is Google search engine. But after doing some stupid Microsoft software download, whenever I type keywords in Firefox addressbar and press enter, search engine used has changed to Microsoft’s Bing search Engine !

Goshh !!! I never recalled changing it so I did a search and found the following solution…. But don’t worry, just follow this tips to remove Bing search engine from your Firefox addressbar

Type about:config in Firefox addressbar and search for “keyword.”

Make sure that keyword.enabled is set to ‘true.’ Right click on keyword.url which if you noticed above have been set to http://search.live.com (what a s**t !).

To remove this hijacked value, as mentioned above, right click on keyword.url and choose ‘modify’

Copy and paste – http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q= to restore it back to Google. Close window and restart

I will give you a little tips to restore Google Search (Google search results page) and remove Bing search Engine in Firefox

it’s not DIFFUCULT, just do my tips below, and check for sure that you DON’T use any quotation marks that I described below, as I am just using them for clarification.

My sister installed the MS Messenger and the stupid BING search engine took over my Google search engine in my Firefox’s address bar.

1. In your Firefox address bar, type “about:config”

2. Yellow warning triangle will show up on the web page, but don’t be alarmed, just click on “I’ll be careful, I promise” button

3. In the FILTER bar, (looks like your typical address bar), type in “keyword.URL”

4. Double click it and another smaller window will pop up. Replace the highlighted text with the FOLLOWING text:

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe…

Note: If you can’t see the entire text, just right click it and choose “Copy Link Location” and then PASTE IT in the box that I mentioned above.

5. Click OK and you have your Google back as your default search engine in your Firefox browser.

Done !!! you restore Google Search Engine and delete Bing Search Engine !!!

Let’s face it: finding content is not easy. Google is the champion when it comes to search, but have faced the frustration of the meaning of keywords in your pages indexed, you lying, you know how hard it is to find what they really are looking for. So, hold your horses, because everything is about to change. And? Bing? is the answer.

A look at some of the key features of Bing, and you know it works wonders in many fields. Areas to be Google? I’ve studied a lot, but no? No, because it was the only player on the market. Slowly but surely, this will change.

Without further ado, let? S down to 10 Reasons to love Bing.
1. If you like local searches, Bing just became your best friend

I can not begin to tell you how good is the local search. Type “Italian Restaurants in San Diego” and you will see a list of local restaurants. Nothing big. This is similar to Google.

But wait until you click on any of the restaurants. BOOM! (No, sorry that’s not Steve Jobs demoing the iPhone). You suddenly see a clear score card and comments on the restaurants of women leaving the site. Not only that, you get a map with the addresses of all the nearby roads.

Clicking the map will give you the addresses of all the nearby roads, as the needs of door to door directions anyway. I know how to reach the road, so why do not you tell me from there. Bing ago. And he does very well. He looked at me and said that very Rat Pack-style Italian restaurant with live jazz music, I started to miss the nights of New York, and here’s what Bing and gave me the restaurant I wanted. I couldn? Do that with Google. Yes, I did know at the same restaurant Yelp, but then again, now you do not go to Yelp, as always I can see the comments right on the same page.

Now you can find cafes, restaurants, etc. without having to go to 3 different places.
2. If you love Sports / Games, Da Bing is a man!

Well, quickly, type in Google and Kobe Bryant Bing. Not really, they do.

Here? Google brings the monotonous S:

Nothing interesting for Google. some videos, so an entry in Wikipedia

Compare what brings Bing:

In the left hand navigation as you can see the highlights (which shows all the games of their most recent first), dunks, etc. Then you see statistics related searches that are really good. But on the right side, you can view all their stats on the results! Points in their last 3 games of the season statistics etc. And not only that, but see separate sections of the results at the Games Kobe Bryant, Kobe Bryant highlights, etc. So, his biography can restrict your search to any category want.

Try the same for the keyword “Fathers” in Google and Bing. Note the difference. We? Speaking of a great user experience!
3. Compare Prices

We all have our stock tickers. Nothing special in this regard. But yes, Bing did not do something really cool. Let? S type “CAL GLD AAPL date.” And here’s what! Bing brings citations!

Nifty!
4. Awesome Home

You gotta give it to them. This really is the best I’ve seen things. Yes, I was live search working, but the search was so alive yesterday search. For people like me, this is one of the most amazing things. I love to travel and do things that are very different, such as sailing in Miami, or ride a sled dog in Alaska, you get the idea, and the page opens a new opportunity to learn more and explore the world in a better way. For me, this is my everyday thing. What can I get Bing page today.

5. On the Summary page hover

A small but cool feature, you can float in the orange circle next to each link, and that brings you the text of that page. No need to click the link to find out if the page contains information you want or not. This seems an interesting feature-it has actually saved me a lot of extra clicks is, click on> the page of hatred> Back button. It’s all about the little things in life.
6. Image Search

Great image search. Period. Google? Bye! No one can come closer to the image search as Bing. I searched for the Eiffel Tower, but only love photos of the Eiffel Tower, taken in the evening. Here’s the cool thing, hover over pic 1 night (as shown in Figure 1), and then click “show pictures like” and see the results after the results, all on the same page (ie no paging) for the same type of images.

Not only that, you can sort images by size, design, color, style and the people (where the options are just faces, all head and shoulders, etc.) and each of them work very well !
7. Video Search

In case you have not heard of it is a paradise for lovers of porn. Not taking credit away from the excellent features provided by Bing, but it makes browsing porn (videos, etc.) very easy. You can hover over a clip and see who all live in action without leaving the page. If you decide you like the clip, click on it. In many cases, still do not have to leave the site. For someone who loves the videos, this is a great place to be. You can sort videos by length, resolution, screen size and font.
8. Shopping

Cashback works! Type “Canon Rebel XT and watch neat little sections? Shop, manual, instructions, the driver, case, parts, pictures and videos on the left hand navigation. Clicking on a camera actually gives you all the information you need: product details, user reviews, expert commentary (a must!) And compare prices

9. Travel

Farecaster was a big application. Now that is integrated into Bing, is even better. Looking for airfare deals, trends, or hotels etc. Look no further. Bing does it for you. Type “Airfare to Seattle” and you will see a section with the prices of the city just on the search page. Click and see more offers another page.

We all know how Farecaster so I will not delve into much detail. But it does great. I know that I will use again and again until you find the right front. You can also check flight status directly by typing the keyword “Flight Information”
10. All those other things

Then there are other things, a ton more if you ask me.

a) Write in UPS can allow you to track your package here

b) Write a name in the film will show all time there. You can also see the IMDB rating right on the same page. I really do not even have to leave the page.

c) Improving the Health Information, as part of the Mayo Clinic, etc.

d) Type of floor traffic and get a heat map, with comments in direct traffic

e) Large celebrity search, classification, etc.

f) Type “weather” and you get the weather forecast

g) It remembers your searches. You can save searches

h) Type of name in a car and have all the details, such as: Honda Accord

i) Calculate, immediate responses, etc etc

These are all the good things that Bing has to offer. As usual, we are so accustomed to Google (me included) that we find it hard to believe that someone can not offer a better service. I started with a lot of doubts, but gradually I totally phased out by Google. There are only certain things that Google does very well, like finding an old book that really can? Not found anywhere. Google has the answer. But for the most part, I use because I know Bing more meaningful results and can quickly jump to a category of my choice.

There are some peculiarities with Bing, however, entering an incorrect spelling, which does not give you what you want. I am confident that over time this will change.

Bing I would love to integrate real-time flows and Fbook as Twitter. I know that MSFT is now venturing into this field. Therefore, it would be great.

So why am I writing this? No I do not work for MSFT. Do not pay me to write this MSFT. I am writing this because I am a big fan of healthy competition. Nobody, I mean anyone who has done business with Google for their campaigns knows how hard they do for business. We’re at their mercy, which can increase costs when they want and for as much as you want. There is no logic . Healthy competition in this area will Google back on the floor.

For a business model like that of Google, including a 10% drop in the share represents an enormous change in revenue, so they can not afford that, and therefore, take immediate efforts to improve its product rather than the results that lame now.

For customers like us, this is even better because it gives us the best of the best.

Bing is also a great product and makes it even better. Give it a whirl, I promise you will not regret it.

First goto your Internet Explorer, if your browser site default appear as Bing.com immediately it mean that you need to change this default engine. If you are not directed to Bing after searching from your search bar then skip to the next part of this guide.

On the main menu, select Tools and then Internet Options.

In the highlighted box you will see that your home page has been set to http://www.bing.com, simply change that to your desired engine and hit OK. Now if you need to change the default engine for your search bar, click the drop down arrow next to the magnifying glass and you should see Google in that drop down list. If not, you will have to hit “Find more providers…” and select it from the page you are presented with.

That’s all there is to it, you are now free of Bing!
